Ubuntu – How to create a new blank file in Nautilus 3.6 and above

1. Open gconf-editor and set /desktop/gnome/interface/can_change_accels to true. This lets you edit menu shortcuts.
2. With Nautilus open, go to File menu, then Scripts, then hover over the Script you want to make a shortcut for.
3. Press the key combination you want to assign to this Script. You should see it appear on the menu.
4. Navigate off the menu and test it out.

You need to do this from the File menu of Nautilus...simply right-clicking in a Window to obtain the Scripts list does not allow adding shortcuts.

If you want to remove the shortcut, repeat steps 1 and 2, then press Backspace when your Script is highlighted on the menu. This should remove the shortcut.

Note: you might have to do a "nautilus -q" from Terminal before the gconf change takes effect.

No, there is no way to remove the tip in the bottom left/right edges when you select a file or folder showing it's information.

This has been called floating status bar and the gnome developers wants to remove the old status bar also!! The old status bar is still available in 12.10. If you select from menu → View → Status bar, the old status bar will be activated and you will get rid of the new floating status bar. You can use this as a workaround.

There is a recent commit in nautilus source to remove the old status bar completely. The commit can be seen here. The main line of importance there is this two one:

We use a floating status bar now.

If you don't want this feature, I would suggest you to compile the nautilus yourself.
