I have Ubuntu installed on a rather small SSD. I want to be able to install Windows programs using Wine, but they have to be installed on the HDD.
By default, Wine creates a folder in the home directory /home/<user>/.wine where the installed Windows programs are saved. I want to change this to another location, such as /media/HDD/.wine
Is there any possibility to achieve this in a simple way?
Well it might look like I was not even paying attention to what I was asking here but it just came to me to type drive in the dash and what do you know, look at this:
The Browse C: Drive option appears and you can even drag it to the launcher. So it not only does work with Dash but you can also add it to the launcher to speed things up when I want to go inside the C: drive. Love Unity more and more.
Wine has a root directory .wine in your home directory.
The windows-drive letters (e.g.: C: D: ..) can be mapped with the winecfg program.
Depending on what drive letter you installed MS office you find the files somewhere under the .wine directory.
most commonly your installation is in ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files\ \(x86\)...

I looked in the "configure Wine" window, but to change the
Cdirectory is greyed out:Simple solution: a link
What simply works however is:
Move the folder
drive_cfrom~/.wine/to any accesible location of your choice (Thec-driveis probably what you really want to move, since applications are stored in that directory)Make a link from there into the folder
~/.wine/:That should simply work (and it does on my system)
