White background color is harm to eyes. How to change pdf background color in evince?

I browsed very quickly the source code but couldn't find a way to change it or propose a patch, but I will try to do it later.
Anyway, for the time being I made a bug report on the proper place https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=677471 so now we wait if it is answered by the team.
Under Evince 3.4 you can activate a "back" button by editing the toolbar (Edit → Toolbar; drag and drop functions to toolbar):
I don't think there's any hotkey by default but you might be able to add a custom one.
If you're looking for customization you might be better off with a PDF viewer like Okular or qpdfview anyway. Both should offer the function you're searching for.

I am sure that you can invert the color but I am not sure whether you can use a different color of your choice as a background color.
To invert the color.
Goto: View -> Inverted Colors (Ctrl+I)
