Ubuntu – Unable to connect to Ubuntu One

I am having trouble connecting to Ubuntu One. I have gone to System > Preferences > Ubuntu One and entered my account information. All seems well at this point. Then when I go to the Devices tab and click Connect, it grays out for about 3 seconds and does nothing.

I have tried reinstalling, rebooting, removing the machine from my account without any success.

Any ideas on other things to try?

FYI: I'm using Ubuntu 10.10.

I tracked down how to fix the problem. It appears that this is somewhat of a known bug. I was able to solve the problem by disconnecting the Ubuntu One account from the computer (by removing the computer from the account) and then deleting the Ubuntu One folder and ~/.local/share/ubuntuone folder, it cleared all of the configuration and when I reconnected the account, all was well.

I'm not a big fan or user of Ubuntu One, but I'll try to help. You'll probably need to outline some additional details :

Version of Ubuntu you're running.
Size of folder you're trying to sync.
How are you connected to the internet? Is this is a home broadband service, or a corporate setting?
Are you using a proxy server to connect to the internet?
Are you using a firewall, hardware or otherwise? Perhaps one built in to your broadband router (what make is your broadband router)?
Please post the results of running sudo ufw status in a terminal.

You might also benefit from running the (unofficial, I think) gnome-panel indicator applet for Ubuntu One. Run this to install it :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rye/ubuntuone-extras
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ubuntuone-indicator

Then run it with ALT-F2 and ubuntuone-indicator. I think it's in System/Preferences too. This applet gives you quick access to see what the last file synced was and what Ubuntu One's current status is.

Ubuntu – Files don’t sync with U1

Up to and including 10.10 the startup of syncdaemon, the bit of ubuntuone-client in charge of synchronizing your files, could take quite some time: tens of minutes on a slow disc with a large number (tens of thousands) of files kept in sync by Ubuntu One. If you try using u1sdtool during that time, you can easily trigger the above DBus error. It's ugly, and we're working to make it go away for 11.04, but it's also innocuous. You could read it as a “I'm busy, please try again in a few minutes”.

Now, there's another issue in 10.10 that we've fixed and you should have actually gotten the fix in your regular updates, and that is that it sometimes doesn't connect automatically. A state of READY means that syncdaemon is ready to go as soon as you tell it to connect.

ubuntuone-preferences (System › Preferences › Ubuntu One) should be offering you a “Connect” button in that state. If it's not, please file a bug; meanwhile, you can enter u1sdtool -c on the commandline to manually ask it to connect.
