Ubuntu – Ubuntu for phones – cannot find any Carrier

I already installed Ubuntu for phones in my Galaxy Nexus. Looks perfect but I am not able connect my phone to any carrier. When I want to choose one manually, it shows only searching all the time [now about 30 min.]

I used this Ubuntu Touch wiki tutorial.

I am a newbie in this area so please for little help. Thanks a lot.

Telephony

The Developer Preview currently only supports limited voice and SMS over GSM and WCDMA.

The following Radio technologies are not yet included in the Developer Preview:

CDMA

LTE

Airplane Mode

Settings ( eg. APN choice, 2G only, … )

According to the Ubuntu Edge website (Which I think you are referring to), the Ubuntu phone is unlocked. As such, it is open to any carrier. ALL these phones will be non-carrier specific. Now the problem here is that I doubt that the project is going to go ahead, because funding does seem insignificant. Anyway, you can read more up on the Ubuntu phone here:

I'm not sure, but I dont't think this is possible at the moment. But for a quick and dirty hack you could just ssh into your phone and then send sms using the cli:

/usr/share/ofono/scripts/send-sms /ril_0 <target phone number> "your Text" 0

If you have multiple sim cards installed:

ril_0

represents your first sim and

ril_1

represents the second sim.

But while Mir and Unity 8 are getting more and more mature, we might see a GUI that can do this in the future.
