Ubuntu – Okular no longer working in terminal after Kubuntu 18 upgrading

I have recently upgraded from Kubuntu 16 to 18.
When I try to run okular in a terminal (konsole) as a user (as I have been successfully doing before, in vs 16), in vs 18 it fails, giving a message error: "Unable to find the okular component: The shared library was not found".
I can run okular from the Application Menu, and also from terminal provided I run it with sudo, but not when I try as a user. I wonder what has changed in the upgrading and how to fix the problem.

Perhaps this is not the solution you are asking for, but I fixed this on my machine by removing the snap version of Okular and installing the apt version instead.

There was probably an error copying/extracting the libraries. libvtkWidgets.so and libvtkWidgets.so.5.4 should not be files but symbolic links. Try the following:

rm libvtkWidgets.so.5.4 libvtkWidgets.so
ln -s libvtkWidgets.so.5.4.2 libvtkWidgets.so.5.4
ln -s libvtkWidgets.so.5.4 libvtkWidgets.so

Anyway you should check if the software that you are installing is available from the software center. If it is not available and if the above fix does not work you will need to contact the application provider.

About the "Shortcut Keys don't work" part.. I had a simmilar issue after upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04 : - Ctrl+Alt+T didn't work - lock screen ( Ctrl+Alt+L ) didn't work - media keys didn't work

Here is what worked for me:

I installed "compizconfig-settings-manager"
I opened "General" -> "Commands" and activated the check box on the left "activate commands" and then clicked "Back"

At this point the shortcuts started to work again.
