I am not a fan of unity so I decided to install gnome 3 on my PC which is running Ubuntu 13.10. But after the installation, I am failing to use some shortcuts like Ctrl+Alt+T to open the terminal and others for volume. Would someone help me please.

The latter two for workspace switching is possible to be disabled , download and install gconf-editor , locate this entry:
move_to_workspace
And leave them empty should work.

On my laptop, they are two ways to bypass :
my custom shortcut works if I use a more simple key binding. For example, Ctrl+Alt+ESC does not work, but SUPER+K works.
use an alternative way to create a custom command with the CompizConfig Settings Manager launched with
ccsm> Commands. Then create your key binding.
Remark in the both solution, my key binding Ctrl+Alt+ESC doest not work, but SUPER+K works. I think some key binding can not be used anymore.

EDIT: The easier way is reloading gnome shell using Alt+F2 (and then r)

Same is the case for me. Try this
mv .gconf/ .gconf.bakLogout and Login back.
It worked for me in Ubuntu Gnome 14.10.
