I have to do a fair amount of writing in red and black in the same document. In MS Office I would set a keyboard shortcut to switch between colors so I don't have to take my hands off the keyboard. Something like Alt+R for red and Alt+B for black.
How can I set up something similar in LibreOffice Writer? I've poked around in Tools -> Customize -> Keyboard but I can't figure it out.
Don't know about Libreoffice (it should be almost the same as OO) but I can suggest you a tool for global language autospelling. It is called Xneur - the same as PuntoSwitcher for windows.
A macro would be overkill in this scenario. There's a much easier option: Autocorrect.
In LibreOffice Writer go to Tools --> Autocorrect:

As you can see I used this method for a set of arrows and it works fine. It might not be the minimum-keystroke option you were searching for, but it sure is far less complicated than a macro.

Muru's suggestion is close, but use Character styles, not Paragraph styles.
