Ubuntu – How to start Tor Browser

14.04tortor-browser

My experience with Linux based operative systems are quite small but I learnt a lot when I used Elementary OS Luna (based on Ubuntu 12.04). Had help from internet and a friend with more than 10 years Linux experience (I can't get in touch with him at the moment).

I followed the instructions here and the installation went without any problems at all.

I have a feeling that the only thing I have done is to have been "preparing" the computer to set up Firefox and other applications to run through Tor instead of installing Tor Browser, please say it's not so?

Otherwise, how do I open Tor Browser?

What you may want to do instead is just download the tor browser bundle (32 or 64) from here: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en

After it's downloaded, extract it to a folder - it can be in your home directory.

To run it, cd to where the you extracted the bundle and run ./start-tor-browser. This will launch the proxy which then launches the browser.
