Ubuntu – How to customize indicator-datetime to two line configuration

Before we used to be able to customize the gnome panel clock to two line style. How could we do the same for indicator-datetime?

I understand there's dconf-editor from dconf-tools. And by going to com.canonical.datetime it almost looks like the gconf-editor thing.

But entering

like before did not change a thing.

Also, just by changing clock by removing the date leaves huge empty spaces around the time, instead of creating more space. It look horrible… how can i fix it?

EDIT: the extra spacing will only be fixed after log out. Maybe it will work by killing gnome-panel, but i didn't try that.

You need to change the time-format key to custom. Have a look at this answer: How to change the date format?

When done, your time string seems to work fine.

Currently your indicator menus are loaded by either indicator-applet or indicator-applet-session, and none of those show the indicator-datetime menu. You can replace those 2 applets, plus the old clock applet by 1 single applet indicator-applet-complete (and you have to install that one first). The indicator-applet-complete applet will show indicator-datetime if it's installed.

So currently you have the following applets at the right side of the panel:

| notification area | indicator-applet | clock | indicator-applet-session |

And you have to change it to:

| notification area | indicator-applet-complete |

Reset Gnome.

First of all, backup your settings.

mkdir ~/backup_gnome
mkdir ~/backup_gnome/.gnome/
cp -R ~/.gnome/* ~/backup_gnome/.gnome/

Do this with these folders: .gnome, .gnome2, .gconf, .gconfd, .metacity

Another way is to backup ALL of your settings:

mkdir ~/backup_settings
cp -R ~/.* ~/backup_settings/

After making backups, you can delete all gnome settings:

rm -rf .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity

WARNING: If you remove all these folders, you essentially remove all the settings.

After resetting gnome, Logout and Login again (or restart your computer). You panels should be restored, now you can edit them again.

I hope this helped you, but try all the answers before mine, because resetting gnome is like reinstalling gnome.
