First install dconf-editor if you dont have it already:
sudo apt-get install dconf-tools
And then run the dconf editor:
sudo dconf-editor
Browse to org.gnome.desktop.interface and locate: gtk-color-scheme
Edit the property to the colours of your choosing:
bg_color:#f0f1f2;selected_bg_color:#4677f0
The colours are in hexadecimal in the format #RedRedGreedGreedBlueBlue
For example:
- Black = #000000 (None of any colour)
- White = #ffffff (The maximum
- of every colour) Red = #ff0000 (Red Only)

I figured it out myself. Questions seems to be so unpopular that I received the "Tumbleweed bagde". Awesome!
- Open dconf-editor
- Navigate to
org - gnome - gedit - plugins - terminal - Change the values background-color and foreground-color (this is the text color) to your liking
- Also make sure to untick the
use-theme-colorsbox. (Thanks to comment by Hibou57)

The tweakability of Oneiric has suffered due to the switch to gnome 3, so for #2:
gedit supports the themes available in package libgtksourceview2.0-common, and if you are willing to, you can create your own or download a large selection from the net.
Click on Edit/Preferences, on the preferences dialog switch to Fonts & Themes and pick a theme.
