I have this problem when trying to run clementine – which is 64bit, i checked the binary i have – and ubuntu-one-control-panel-qt

I'm starting to feel like I've tried everything. Is there a way to restore my qt installation to some kind of default state?

I think this might have happened after I uninstalled Rhythmbox with 'sudo apt-get remove rhythmbox'. I've since reinstalled rhythmbox though, and thought any removed dependencies would be reinstalled with apt….

Line 215 is when I first installed Clementine. It was obviously working at this point. Removing Rhythmbox at line 305 doesn't look like it did too much damage. Yet that is the point when it stopped working, as most of the rest of the log is me trying to fix Clementine.

Just to repeat: I don't think any Qt apps are working on my installation. I'm about to research how to completely remove and reinstall Qt, see if that's a hopeful avenue.

I've got the same issue when installing Time Doctor (not from repos) on fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME x64.

Your comments made me to investigate and do this:

sudo apt-get install libqt4-sql
sudo apt-get install libqt4-gui

After that the error did not occur.

Looks like you're missing a library file. The program apt-file can be used to find which package provides a certain file. (dpkg -S does this too, but does not work for packages which are not installed)

apt-file search libXss.so yields:

ia32-libs: /usr/lib32/libXss.so
ia32-libs: /usr/lib32/libXss.so.1
ia32-libs: /usr/lib32/libXss.so.1.0.0
libxss-dev: /usr/lib/libXss.so
libxss1: /usr/lib/libXss.so.1
libxss1: /usr/lib/libXss.so.1.0.0
libxss1-dbg: /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/libXss.so.1.0.0

You need to install the libxss1 package for that library. If you're running the 32-bit version of Skype, ia32-libs needs to be installed instead of libxss1.

Is the executable you are trying to run a 32 bit executable, by any chance?

The locate output shows you have a 64-bit version of libjpeg.so.62 (in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu), but that can't be used if the executable is 32-bit.

You can determine what architecture a file is compiled for using the file command. For instance:

$ file /bin/ls
/bin/ls: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.24, BuildID[sha1]=0x214a38d0db472db559f0dabf0ae97f82fea83e03, stripped

If it says you have a 32-bit executable, then that is your problem.

You can install the 32-bit version of the library in question using the following command:

sudo apt-get install libjpeg62:i386
