Are there any todo list / notepad desktop widgets? Bonus points if it can sync with Google's tasks list!

No, it does not have any widgets you can place on the desktop.

The uninstall was probably because it was installed from a standalone deb and apt marked it as obsolete after the switch to the 11.04 ppas.

You could install Tomahawk from a PPA for Ubuntu.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tomahawk/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tomahawk

For the Nuvola Player exists a feature request for soundcloud integration. You could mark the "bug" so that is affecting you.
