Ubuntu – Are the scroll bars so wacky looking

I'm not sure what I did, but my scroll bars look like hell. In this picture, you can see them adjacent to the suggested questions and at the windows edge. What is that about?

This behavior is consistent across all applications — at the top and bottom of any scroll bar, I see a tall grey box. And in some cases I get this wacky multiple horizontal scroll:

In trying to fix this, I managed to totally trash my compiz settings (What do I do about my busted GUI?) so now I've restored Compiz to its default settings and the scrollbars are still totally crazy looking.

The problem could be your theme. You should be able to switch back and forth themes. If you find that your theme wasn't the one you selected, change it back. If you find that some theme is indeed problematic, file a bug.

Try this. To reset Compiz and Unity to defaults. just press Ctrl+Alt+T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the command(s) below:

sudo apt-get install dconf-tools
dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
setsid unity
unity --reset-icons

Also you can try this: Run Compiz, and and click on reset to defaults. If that doesn't help, create a new profile, and then click on reset to defaults

Ubuntu – Arrange Icons In Better Grid

What version of Ubuntu are you using?

If it is 14.04 or 16.04, someone wrote a Gnome script called Happy Desktop that allows you to define the grid size that controls how your desktop icons are spaced. I found out about it in a similar question on this forum.
