Ubuntu – A music player that can handle multiple artist tags

The mp3 format can handle multiple artists per track (in the form of "artist1\artist2"), and as far as I know other modern music formats can do the same thing. However, Rhythmbox (my default music player) seems to be capable of only reading the first artist. Are there any music players that can read and sort songs with multiple artists, or a plugin for Rhythmbox that can provide this functionality?

Quod Libet will handle multiple values for pretty much any tag where supported by the format (e.g. mp3). It also knows about other person-like tags such as albumartist, performer and composer and has meta-tags for these.

Rhythmbox already has this functionality. All you need to do in order to use it is to describe your device for Rhythmbox to know its capabilities. Quote from https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Rhythmbox/FAQ :

Create a .is_audio_player file on the device. You can set a few fields in this file to override the media-player-info device information like this:

audio_folders=MUSIC/,RECORDINGS/
folder_depth=2
output_formats=application/ogg,audio/x-ms-wma,audio/mpeg

Describe where the music is stored on the device as well as which formats it is capable of playing and Rhythmbox will transfer everything compatible directly and transcode everything incompatible. :)

Ubuntu – Rhythmbox isn’t seeing all of the music files

I had a similar problem with Rhythmbox. I don't have nearly the number of files you have, but it was not seeing new files or changed files. I did the following:

In Preferences --> Music, I unchecked "Watch my Library for new files".
Completely closed Rhythmbox (important).
Renamed the rhythmbox database - ~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml
Started up Rhythmbox and checked "Watch my Library for new files".
It started checking my collection and found everything.

It seems that my problem was an issue with the configuration file. I had reinstalled Rhythmbox, but had not done a complete uninstall. This left a corrupted configuration file in my Rhythmbox sub-directory. You may want to try this if it's possible that you have a corrupted configuration file.
