PuTTY: Forcibly terminate an SSH session without closing the window

Is there a way to forcibly terminate an SSH session in PuTTY, short of closing the PuTTY window?

For example, in OpenSSH, I can use the ~. escape sequence to kill the connection.

This is useful when the SSH session stops responding for some reason, but I don't want to lose any of my current session-specific settings. In that case, I'd like to kill the session and then use Restart Session to reconnect.

You can try sending a break signal by pressing CTRL+Break.

If the connection is an SSH-2 connection and the server supports it, you will have a "Break" option under "Special Commands"

You can run this: ssh -t hostname screen -r 3453 to reconnect. If you want to do it in a loop I use the following in a script.

while true; do
    ssh -t -o BatchMode=yes eeepc-rsi "screen -r 3453"
    sleep 2
done

This works best if you have ssh-keys setup so you can login without typing in your password. I'd also recommend that you look at tmux, a more modern implementation of screen. I actually use the above script with screen. You probably also want to use a named screen session rather than just using the pid like you do in your example.

Yes, of course.

You want to "detach" from your session.

You can use Byobu's hotkey, F6, or you can use the tmux escape sequence, Ctrl-a-d.
