Outlook 2010: Show an ‘outside working hours’ notification when composing mail

Here's the situation.
A friend freelances for an organization, and she wants to control mails she receives outside of working hours.
Normally Outlook displays a sort of popup when you're composing mail to someone whose 'Out of office' is active (as does Lync 2010).
She wants a similar way to notify someone who is composing a mail to her, if that person is composing the mail outside of her office hours.

The second suboptimal solution is to have an autoresponse sent for incoming mail sent outside working hours, say after 6 PM. However,there don't seem to be rule criteria for rules based on the time an email was received.

Is there a way to do this, perhaps by some third party addon?

An ugly work around for 2010:

In Outlook 2010 -> Tools -> Rules and Alerts
New rule -> Start with a blank rule -> Check messages when they arrive
Check 'with specific words in the message header'
The words to look for would be "18:","19:","20:" etc to trigger for mail arriving between 6pm and 8pm.

The advice below is for Office 365 - it may work in 2010 and Exchange but not sure.

As a workaround, the user can try to set a MailTips (I am off of the office from 10pm to 7am) in Office 365 to achieve this goal. When a sender sends emails to him, the MailTips will be displayed in the Outlook Web App compose note as a banner. For more information, see http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/ff872400.aspx

This worked for me with Outlook 2010.

1) In the left hand navigation pane, click on (highlight) the .pst file where the "missing" emails should be showing. Or, if the emails are just "missing" from a folder or subfolder, click on that folder or subfolder.

2) Click on the "View" tab on the top of the Outlook window.

3) On the far left side of the ribbon in the "Current View" section, click on "Change View."

4) There should be 4 options:

 Hide Messages
 Compact
 Single
 Preview

5) "Hide Messages" is probably the option presently applied, so click on the option you would prefer instead, and your emails should appear in your email window in the format you have just selected.

6) If "Hide Messages" does not appear as an option, click on any option other than the one presently applied and let the drop down box disappear. Your emails should appear in the email window in the format you have just selected. Then click on "Change View" again and choose your original format (assuming that this format is still what you want), or choose another option altogether. Your emails should now appear in the email window in the original or newly-selected format.

Outlook 2016 slow sending and receiving

Outlook is full of settings that are difficult and non-intuitive to locate.

One thing that could cause a message to take longer to send (that is, to leave Outlook) is whether it is already synchronized with the server or no.

Check this setting:

File > Info > Account Settings (button) > Account Settings (menu item)

And find your mail account in the E-mail tab and choose Change (should take you into the Account Settings panel)

Check that Mail to keep offline is set to All:

Another thing to try is, in the same Account Settings panel, click on More Settings then go to the Advanced and make sure the Purge items when switching folders while online is checked. The reason I suggest this is that (unless I'm wrong) it may perform some cleanup on the local db.

Also, in that same Advanced panel, I have for Server Timeouts set to 1 minute. Maybe that could help?

Here is something I found which has a few more ideas (Bear in mind I have not tried any of these things):

Make sure Outlook is closed. Then locate and run scanpst.exe with your *.pst outlook data file as the parameter. (This is the Inbox Repair Tool)

If that doesn't work, use your Office CD to run a repair.

Finally, try opening Outlook in safe mode by typing this in the RUN box:

Outlook.exe /safe
