macOS High Sierra – Quick Look Video Scrubbing Guide

Previously, when previewing a video in Quick Look, scrolling right and left on the trackpad would scrub forward and backward, but after upgrading to macOS High Sierra, this seems no longer to be the case.

Is there any way to re-enable this setting? Or, if not, are there any alternative ways to scrub? (Dragging the line on the progress bar is not nuanced enough, especially for longer videos.)

As of macOS 10.13.2 (17C88) it is working correctly once again.

After some experimentation, I discovered that it isn't quite a double-tap that is required to activate the drag lock. The second tap of the double-tap need to be held down until the drag is started instead of being released immediately.

So the sequence of steps look something like this:

touch trackpad
release after ~0.1s (or some short period of time)
wait ~0.1s 
touch trackpad
begin drag
release touchpad

And then when I am done dragging:

touch trackpad
release after ~0.1s
