I am running on Mac OS X 10.8.2.
I have a licensed copy of Microsoft Office, and haven’t had a problem using it, until a recent update!
Since then, whenever I try to open it I get the following message:
You can't open the application 'Microsoft Word' because PowerPC Applications are no longer supported
How do I resolve this, please?
Check to see if the application you are using is Intel supported. I don't know why a PPC application wouldn't run on an Intel, but try clicking on the application, go to File>Get Info, and under General>Kind, check to see what the application kind is.
If you want to get anal about fonts you may find this PDF useful. It is by Extensis, the guys that make things like Suitcase Fusion and Universal Type Server/Client.
It is full of handy advice from a general viewpoint (i.e. not 'buy our product') and probably more information than you really want or need.
I'm not sure if it has been updated for Lion yet so tread carefully if you carry out any system font management on the basis of something in the PDF. I haven't used Lion enough yet to know how differently it handles fonts to 10.6 so will probably struggle to help if something goes wrong!

PowerPC applications were allowed on Intel Mac with Rosetta. Rosetta disappeared with Lion, if I remember well (There were 2 OS between Mavericks and Snow Leopard). The solution is either get a new version of Microsoft Office, or downgrade your Mac OS X.
