MacOS – How to run the iPad simulator to test a website on the mac

I've developed a web app which is having some weird issues on iOS safari on my iPad.

I've never developed an iOS app, although I am a developer (c#) and have downloaded the latest xcode dev tools (just never got round to it).

Is there an easy way to just get the iPad sim up and start browsing the web on it on my mac?

Install XCode, then the simulator is located at /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Applications/Simulator.app Once it's running, go to Hardware -> Device, then pick the iOS version and device. It will boot up, then you can start Safari.

Update: XCode.app is now a package rather than a folder. In Finder, option/right click on XCode.app and select 'Show Package Contents', then follow the path down from there.

I would leave the simulator in the Xcode package, but drag it to your dock to easily launch it. Or make an alias to it and place that alias in what ever spot you want to launch simulator from.

As Adam stated, Xcode 4.3 switched over to being a self-contained application. I would suggest uninstalling the old version of Xcode as he stated, then just copying the new .app over into your Applications folder. Finally, delete the whole /Developer directory.

However, Apple decided to make the mistake of not updating the paths for the development tools. So, you need to update those paths manually. If you've put Xcode in your Applications folder, you can run the following in Terminal to switch the paths over to your new app location:

sudo xcode-select -switch /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer

If you need to check the current path, you can do the following:

xcode-select -print-path
