I have a Mac Mini, running OS X 10.7.5, and I try to upgrade it, but I cannot for some reason (in short – I want to install the new XCode and code in Swift).
When I click the "Free upgrade" button nothing happens (pic below). I have triple checked Little Snitch that nothing is blocking the App store or something similar, but found nothing.
Any suggestions.
The problem lies on the LogMeIn Hamachi network which, on IPv4, tries to get all the 5.0.0.0/8 netblock even if there are classes opf public IP addresses in there. Solved by setting LogMeIn to use IPv6 only.

Setting aside whether you are actually done with the prior version of Xcode (as older versions have some capabilities and older SDK that the newer versions no longer support - you might want to keep an old machine with an old Xcode around if you are supporting legacy software products - but let's assume you don't care about anything other than making new programs with the newest Xcode) let's dive in with the steps.
To prepare for the new Xcode, it is easiest to uninstall all previous versions of Xcode by following the uninstall documentation for each version you have installed.
For Xcode 4.1 you will want to run the perl script to clean things up:
To uninstall Xcode developer tools on the boot volume along with the directory, from a Terminal window type:
$ sudo <Xcode>/Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=all
For the new Xcode, the App Store doesn't normally show the download progress so you must track it from Launchpad or just by watching the /Applications folder in Finder. It shows INSTALLING as depicted above, but the Launchpad view has a live progress bar and summary of the 1.61 GB download as depicted below.

One of my Mac Minis is the early 2009 Core2Duo model, which is the oldest Mini which supports Yosemite. If you have a model which is older than 2009, it will only support Lion (Core2Duo), Snow Leopard (CoreDuo/CoreSolo), or Leopard (PowerPC).
