MacOS – Apple password verification showing weird characters
macos
I recently had to reload Yosemite on my Macbook Pro Retina (Mid 2014)
and after booting it up this morning and allowing a application to run, my password box looks like this.
Any help would be appreciated.

The Font Database is corrupted, you can rebuild it. (NOTE: make backup before performing this)
As I recall, "lid closed" is an entirely different event than "sleep or screen saver" and you cannot disable asking for a password when the laptop is opened. There is a brief timeout where you can reopen the lid, in some cases, but it's only a few seconds.
Lion works fine as virtual machine - as well as all Mac OS X' since Snow Leopard* - in all of the mentioned apps. VMware/Parallels usually offer a better system integration and better performance though - with the downside that they aren't available for free.
To get the OS X Lion installer, check your purchases in your App Store account. If you have downloaded it previously on the MacMini, it should be available there.
*: It's a bit tricky to install Yosemite in VirtualBox and performance is sluggish.

And then repair permissions:
After it's finished restart your machine.
