My mouse cursor seems to be skipping around. Could this be a virus?
USB Mouse, Macbook Intel Core Duo 2

It is unlikely this is due to a virus, as there are far more obvious explanations.
Whatever type of mouse, you should first attempt to clean it when movements skip. Dirt might be interfering the laser or other sensors. You can use a slightly damp cloth for cleaning it. A mild detergent could help for greasy dirt accumulations.
If you are using a laser mouse, it might have difficulties tracking movement due to the type of surface you are using it on. This is especially common on glass or other homogeneous surfaces with very little texture. Using a mousepad should improve your experience in those cases.
If all else fails, maybe your mouse is up for replacement.
unfortunately I´m experiencing the same thing since yesterday.
I don´t even touch the mouse but the mouse keeps moving in a 3 to 5 seconds interval.
Did you proceed with this problem?
What I found so far:
- It is not the mouse (Magic Mouse) nor Bluetooth. Switching off both doesn´t change anything.
- It´s not in my account. Switching to another account is not the cure.
I´m really embarrassed, but I solved the problem here.
Yesterday my mouse battery was empty and I connected an old microsoft mouse with a cord because I ran out of loaded batteries. After reloading batteries I continued using Magic Mouse. But I didn´t disconnect the cord mouse but put it into a box. And since than I had tis problem. Removing the cord mouse solved the problem.
There are 2 FREE ways to accomplish getting mouse speeds over 5.0 accelleration on mac OS High Sierra:
First, is by executing the command-line:
defaults write -g com.apple.mouse.scaling X
where X is the amount of acceleration you want in the form of a number with one decimal space after it, then logging out, and logging back in.
Therefore if you wanted to increase your speed to 8 acceleration you would type in the terminal the following command:
defaults write -g com.apple.mouse.scaling 8.0
Note: If afterwords, you adjust the mouse controls in System Preferences again, you have to once again enter the terminal command and log out to regain your accelerated mouse settings.
Second, is to use an app called mousezoom. It gets installed in preferences pane.
