Just curious if anyone has tried maxing out the ram on a late 2009 Macbook (white, not pro) to 16GB running El Capitan or Yosemite?
Everymac's page states that the max is 8GB. Why not 16GB?

Apple states that it's 4GB, but OWC continuously check the max. supported RAM.

It's not possible to use RAM running at 1600MHz in your Macbook Pro 8.2, because it's not supported by the processor.
Your Macbook Pro has the Intel® Core™ i7-2635QM Processor which only allows DDR3-RAM running at 1066/1333MHz according to Intel. (see link for official specs)
While the 2635QM processor does not support 1600MHz memory, it does support 16GB RAM:

The chipset and processor may not support more RAM, even though you can physically put it in. You can always try. Weird behaviour and instability result from that.
