MacBook Air wifi issues

I bought a brand new MacBook Air from the apple store in Sydney last week, but no matter where I go to connect to a wifi source, it never connects. Wherever I try an exclamation mark shows up and I don't know why this is. I've tried a few things in the system preferences but still unsure. Can someone please help me??

It's not exactly your symptoms, but a good start.

Take a look at the wifi equipment you are trying to attach to. If you can't still get a connection after reading my previous post, take the MBA back to the Apple store and see if you can connect there. If you connect, the issue probably sits with your wifi router. If you cannot connect, it's the laptop.

Given you are using 2.4 GHz Wifi, there are 2 channels (namely 12 and 13) available in Europe, that are not allowed in the US and are therefore not supported by US-bought WIFI adapters. See Wi-Fi Channel availability

As far as I know Apple uses different Wifi-modules for european and US-models, so there's little hope to fix that in software.

Ask a fellow student to look up on which channel he is connected. If it's 12 or 13 you won't be able to connect.

Are you on OS X 10.10.1? It claims to fix some wifi issues present in 10.10.0.

If your software is up to date, you can try the following steps. They worked perfectly on my early 2011 MBP running Yosemite. Source

Turn off Wi-Fi from the menu bar.
From Finder, hit Command+Shift+G (or click Go > Go to Folder) and enter the following path:

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
```
Within this folder, locate and select the following files. (Note: You may not actually have all of them. I know I didn't have all five files on my computer, but I deleted all the ones I had and the fix still worked!)

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
com.apple.network.identification.plist
com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
preferences.plist
```
Move them to a backup folder, like on your desktop. The goal is to delete them from the SystemConfiguration folder (so make sure they don't exist in that folder any more!) to force OS X to recreate them, but you'll want to be able to put your original files back in there in case something goes wrong.
Reboot your computer.
Turn on Wi-Fi from the menu bar. Good luck!
