I connect my phone to a Bluetooth speaker to play music. When engage Siri or try to use dictation, the phone wants to use the microphone on the Bluetooth device, which is either too crappy or too far away for it to understand what I am saying.
So, I would like a way to restrict the iPhone to using its own microphone even when connected to a Bluetooth speaker.
I am open to doing this via a setting, buying an app, or jailbreaking or whatever.
Is there a way to do this?
I figured out my own answer, so hopefully this helps whomever runs into this problem.
Bring up Siri by holding down the Home button. It will come up and on the bottom left you'll see Audio source indicator, pictured below (and highlighted in yellow).
As you can see, it has a grey background. Tap on it and you'll get a menu of audio sources (typically your phone and the Bluetooth device). Select your phone. The icon will get a white background indicate that you successfully changed the audio source.
Now switch back to your Text Messaging application and the tap the microphone button on the keyboard and it will now use the phone microphone instead of the one on the Bluetooth device.
I just worked it out. The entire time Bluetooth was on. Usually when I turn off my car the phone automatically disconnects. I guess this time something went wrong. Even after restarting the phone away from the off car the phone still thought it was connected. All it took is to turn Bluetooth off

The simpler solution would be swiping up on the screen and selecting Airplay to select the output mode as iPhone or iPhone speaker, This will make the iPhone mic in use, but it will remove the speaker from Bluetooth as well for the time being.
