Can someone explain how to find and use kext files

The post I found on this forum: "Apple Cinema Display Brightness no longer works in Mavericks or Yosemite" explains how to fix it using kext files but I can't figure out how to get the kext file to use with the KextBeast program. I bought a used Apple LED Cinema Display and need to be able to adjust brightness to calibrate it.

I found out that by also plugging in the usb cord from my monitor to the computer, the brightness controls on my keyboard now work! No need for kext files after all.

Where did you install the “brightness” command? Even if you've set up your PATH in the shell rc scripts, it may not take effect for these commands because Automator isn't run from a shell. (You can set environment for all programs including GUI using ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist, but I wouldn't recommend fiddling with PATH just for this.)

I suggest changing your Automator workflow to use the full path to where it's installed, e.g.

/usr/local/bin/brightness 1

Those checkers are usually a Graphics RAM corruption. When you're in Safe Mode, OS X's graphics hardware acceleration is turned off as it is when you turn off Quartz in Quartz Debug.

My opinion is that there is no way to fix it except exchanging the main board.
