UEFI install (14.04) boots to GRUB command prompt, no GUI

I just installed zorin 9 core (14.04) on my Hard-Disk in UEFI mode. But, when I boot, all that comes up is a GRUB2 command line. I've searched for solution and came up with this command

configfile (hd0,2)/boot/grub/grub.cfg

and it boots just fine. This command was from arch-linux and they said to copy the grub.cfg to the efi partition, but I don't know exactly what to copy or if I'm even in the right place. they also mentioned

"grub-mkimage"

but I'm not that much of an advanced user to get what all they were saying. could I just create a startup script that has that command in it? Here is the link – GRUB 2 showing prompt instead of menu.

Try these steps:

Step 1: Boot Ubuntu Live Media in UEFI Mode
Step 2: Mount Zorin OS partition on /mnt
Step 3: Mount EFI partition on /mnt/boot/efi
Step 4: Mount /dev/pts /dev/ /proc /sys /var/run /run on /mnt$i
Step 5: Chroot into /mnt
Step 6: Install grub2-efi, run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg, run grub-install /dev/sda
Step 6: Done. Reboot.

I have done a dualboot Windows 8 and Zorin system myself.

Note: Make sure UEFI in enabled in the Bios!

I found a case when I tried to use gummiboot instead of grub. Gummiboot reported an error: that it can't find kernel images. It looks like I mounted /boot and configured fstab after I installed the base system with pacstrap -i. So kernel images that were placed in a /boot directory were lost after mounting, and thus the system could not boot. I wonder what happened with them? Are they were still on hard drive, but were just shadowed with mounted partition?

Anyway, I just reinstalled everything again with carefully following instructions on the Arch wiki and it works now.

UEFI – Chainloading GRUB from GRUB

There's another way: you can create a menu entry that tells GRUB to load another secondary grub.cfg, such as one from another Linux distro.

For example, I started with Gentoo Linux from which I installed GRUB2 into the MBR (the machine is too old for EFI).

I then installed NixOS, which I configured to generate grub.cfg in it's own /boot (separate from Gentoo's /boot) but without installing GRUB.

To clarify, grub-install was executed from Gentoo but not from NixOS.

Next, to be able to boot NixOS, I added this to /etc/grub.d/40_custom in Gentoo:

The key is the configfile /nixos/root/boot/grub/grub.cfg line. It tells GRUB to load another grub.cfg. I then ran grub-mkconfig from Gentoo to apply the changes.

Now, when I boot and select NixOS the entire GRUB interface refreshes to reflect the NixOS grub.cfg, from which I can boot the OS. Unlike chainloading, this configuration utilizes a single installation of GRUB; it simply uses a second configuration.
