Linux – Make thunar mount drives into /media rather than /run/media/username

It's pretty annoying that thunar mounts a drive to /run/media/user_name/XX instead of /media/XX, can I change that behavior ? I'm running latest arch linux

If you're desperate, you can search and replace the path in the thunar sources, then recompile thunar.

Alternatively, you could make /media into a soft link to /run/media/user_name, or the other way around, since you're the only one using the laptop.

To change the default filemanager you can edit the file ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

Don't know how to specify thunar but to use nemo over nautilus I do this:

thomas@localhost ~> cat .local/share/applications/mimeapps.list 
[Added Associations]
inode/directory=nemo.desktop;

Also if you are curious why the wrong filemanager is started if you click on a folder icon check the actual command the starter launches.

After resolving the issues (see comments) you also have to look in the file

/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache

there you can change the filemanager also:

inode/directory=nautilus.desktop
inode/directory=nemo.desktop

Thunar doesn’t auto-mount USB devices with default setup

Turns out you have to install gvfs and polkit-gnome to make this work. After logging out and in again Thunar supports mounting USB devices.
