How to create dumthe webcam

I would like to join some videoconference, but I don't own a webcam and the conference software requires one.

So my question is, can I create a dummy one? I don't care what the cam will cast, I just need to appear to have one.

Just add device with modprobe and stream to it with ffmpeg or gstreamer whatever video you want, or anything else for that matter: https://github.com/umlaeute/v4l2loopback/wiki

I can't test this because the app crashes on ICS, but this should be possible using v4l2loopback and gstreamer.

Compile and load the v4l2loopback kernel module. Note down the v4l2 device it creates (/dev/videoX).

Then use something like the following:

gst-launch-0.10 -v souphttpsrc location='http://<your_phones_ip>:<port>/' is-live=true user-id=<user> user-pw=<pass> ! multipartdemux ! decodebin2 ! v4l2sink device=/dev/videoX

While the gstreamer pipeline is running, the video should appear in /dev/videoX and the device can be used like a normal webcam.

Lines below create a loopback video device /dev/video5. After that ffmpeg is used to connect /dev/video0 to /dev/video5, but crop and hflip the stream on its way.
