Ubuntu – Would Microsoft Visual studios C++ 2010 work on Ubuntu

I want to use Ubuntu but I'm not sure if it will work for Microsoft Visual Studios C++ 2010. Or is there another program that will work on Ubuntu that will work just as good (if not better) than Visual Studios?

Visual Studio would run like death on Ubuntu, but if C++ is your target language, there are way better options out there, many of which are free.

Try Eclipse: http://www.eclipse.org/ or Code::Blocks: http://www.codeblocks.org/

Both are very popular.

cd to the directory where you have downloaded VSCode-linux-x64.zip and run unzip VSCode-linux-x64.zip -d ./vscode to extract the contents of downloaded .zip file to a folder vscode. I did it and it did not give me any error. I could not run it by clicking Code because I am getting -bash: ./Code: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error, mostly because I am using 32-bit linux.

EDIT: Since you said you are getting default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment error, try installing ttf-mscorefonts-installer by sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer. It might help.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pipelight/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends pipelight-multi
sudo pipelight-plugin --update
pipelight-plugin --enable silverlight

Silverlight will work in Firefox.

It is actually installation using wine, but it will work in normal browser, not under wine.
