Ubuntu – Wireless network cannot be enabled for Sony VAIO E series

I cannot use the wireless network from my Sony VAIO E series laptop. My OS is Ubuntu 12.04.
Please help.

I had the same problem. My wireless option was grayed out in network manager.

Solution: Blacklist mac80211 and voilà!

Ubuntu 12 and sony vaio e 14 series

Append this line to file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

blacklist acer_wmi

and your wireless will getup soon.

This solved my problem on my Vaio vpceg:

sudo gedit /etc/rc.local

Place this above the exit 0 line:

rfkill unblock wifi
rfkill unblock all
sudo modprobe -r acer_wmi
