Ubuntu – wifi and ethernet keep disconnecting

I don't know if this has been asked before, but the internet (ethernet and wifi) is constantly disconnected. I've checked the router, via other devices (such as cell phone and tablet) and access to internet is fine. Even when I boot Windows 7 on my computer it's able to connect and stay connected. When I'm running ubuntu (15.04 I believe), when I first start it up it connects just fine to the Wi-Fi network I use. But after using the internet for some time it all of a sudden disconnects and I'm unable to connect again to the router I use. It's says "wifi networks disconnected". But the strange part is when I boot Windows 7 on my computer it's able to stay connected to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet, it's just the Ubuntu OS I seem to be having some trouble with here.

It may just be an internal error.

sudo apt-get purge network-manager
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install network-manager
sudo apt install ubuntu-desktop

Do that then reboot.

I had the same problem with ubuntu 15.10 after running on a wired network and having my laptop suspended and resuming when not on a wired network anymore.

You need to find your driver:

sudo lshw -C network

Look for the wireless controller and in configuration look for driver. In my case:

*-network
   description: Network controller
   product: Wireless 8260
   configuration: driver=iwlwifi latency=0

All I had to do to fix is run

sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi && sudo modprobe iwlwifi

I had the same problem, wireless network would ask for a password to authenticate, then connect and after a couple of seconds it would disconnect again. This process would repeat itself over and over. Even with entering the password directly at the wireless security tab as described here, it would still pop-up with the password dialog box & sometimes connect, but still keep on disconnecting.

This is what I did to solve the problem - it's a workaround, but hopefully later updates will fix this issue.

Establish a connection to your wireless connection
Click on the network icon at the top right-hand of your screen
Select 'Edit Connections' at the bottom
Select the 'Wireless' tab
Select your network & hit 'Edit'
Select the 'IPv6 Settings' tab
Where it says 'Method: Automatic' make it 'Ignore'

That "solved" the problem for me, of course it potentially creates other issues if you need IPv6 on your wireless connection, and hopefully that gets resolved later with updates from Ubuntu or upstream.
