Sometimes applications in the Software Center are outdated and several years old. For instance the version of QtGain is several years old.

Who should I contact to report this?

You will actually want file a "needs packaging" bug and contact the package maintainer, not the developer of the software (although sometimes they are the same person).

The 'needs packaging' bug will need to be filed on launchpad against Ubuntu

To find the package maintainer, you can either search for the package on http://packages.ubuntu.com/ or from the command line with

apt-cache show <packagename>

You could then send the maintainer an email with the bug number.

Normally Ubuntu releases the packages with a distro release and the only updates for them are bugs or security updates, if you want to use later versions of the software you probably need to add a PPA to your list.

This PPA supplies the latest 2.60 version for 11.10, to add it to your system use these commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:user/irie-blender

After that use these commands to update your package list and possible packages

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Package blender will install 2.60 in Ubuntu 11.04, 2.49.2 in Ubuntu 11.04. For 2.50 in 11.04 install package blender2.5.

Ubuntu – Software center has disappeared

Just run the following command in a terminal (commonly reachable via Ctrl+Alt+T):

sudo apt-get install software-center

The above command will install software-center in your computer. If it ever gets uninstalled or "disappears", you can run the command again to install it.
