Ubuntu – Volume Control keys duplicating on key press

For some odd reason, when I use my FN Volume control keys on my laptop, Ubuntu duplicates the input infinitely until I interrupt it by putting a window in full screen. I'm not sure why it's doing this and searching the internet has found nothing aside form similar questions with no answer. This happens with My mute, Volume Up and Volume Down. If I press it once, Ubuntu repeats it infinitely with the OSD flickering. An answer would be awesome as I can't use those keys at the moment. If more info is needed, just ask and I'll see what I can do.

I had the same problem, sound would go crazy if I clicked volume up,down or mute button.

The solution that worked for me is rather simple. Just go to System settings -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> Sound and Media and edit volume up,down and mute settings again to FN + up,down and mute keys on your keyboard. Hope this helps.

Not sure if this will help too much, but I've found that if you go through the system testing program (I think that's what it's called, anyways it has a thumbnail of a monitor with a green image, just search for it under installed programs) it will sometimes fix things like that. If you want you can just skip all the tests except for the media key tests, but I find that the other tests are still helpful. You can also try googling for changing fn key values, I know a lot of keyboards have the option to reverse the F keys and the funtion buttons, so that for F1 you would need to press Fn + F1 for example, and the media key that would normally require Fn would do it without it. Hope I helped you a little bit at least.

Actually they are very distinguishable, your script will receive the whole line as argument. Example:

button/volumeup VOLUP 00000080 00000000 K

You got 5 arguments and you are free how to process them.

Maybe the easiest way:

event=button/*
action=/etc/acpi/yourscript.sh %e

Then in your script used the 3rd argument $3 that will either VOLUP, VOLDN or MUTE, plus some other buttons (power,...) .
