Ubuntu – Unity Settings Deamon crash in 16.04 every time after boot

Each and every time I boot Ubuntu 16.04 the Ubuntu experienced an internal error window comes up. This is a fresh install of Ubuntu on a selfbuild machine (AMD / 64bit). The error pops up every time seconds after I logged in and before I actually could do anything.

I've searched the internet and found a couple of bugs like this one but those I found all seem to have been fixed.

The title of the Error reads: unity-settings-deamon crashed with SIGSEGV in up_exported_dae (can't read more since there is no word wrapping).

Since I suspect this having to do with the graphics card: It is the MSI GTX 970 used the machine.

Edit: There I one more thing I noticed when booting: The purple screen appears pretty fast but then seems to be somewhat locked. I have to wait a couple of seconds before I can actually type in my password.

Bring your system up-to-date, reinstall the unity-settings-daemon and reboot your system:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity-settings-daemon
sudo reboot

This should already solve the issue.

Uninstall the NVIDIA drivers and reinstall them in a different way.

Step 1 : Uninstall the NVIDIA drivers

Highlight the Ubuntu menu entry and press the E key.
Add nouveau.modeset=0 to the end of the linux line.
Press the F10 key to boot into the Ubuntu system.

When the login screen appears press Ctrl+Alt+F1.
Enter user name and password - execute :

sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
sudo reboot

Step 2 : Reinstall the NVIDIA drivers

Highlight the Ubuntu menu entry and press the E key.
Add nouveau.modeset=0 to the end of the linux line.
Press the F10 key to boot into the Ubuntu system.

When the login screen appears press Ctrl+Alt+F1.

sudo reboot

In case the problem still occurs, install the latest official drivers.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-358
sudo reboot

There is a possibility of having some problem in the boot partition in which you have installed Ubuntu.

Go with this instruction to check if there is any problem there or not:

Make a bootable USB and boot your system with it. Find your main partition in which you have installed Ubuntu. You may use sudo blkid to get a list of all your partition. I assume that partition is /dev/sda1.

Make sure that partition is not mounted. Then, in terminal, use this cammand: sudo fsck -a /dev/sda1

If it finished with no error, you can restart your system. It the problem be related to what I said, it should be solved now. Your issue must be solved.
