I am importing my contacts into my personal address book in the following way:

syncevolution –import /path/to/file/allcontacts.vcf backend=evolution-contacts

To keep them updated I delete all the contacts in my address book and do the same procedure with the new .vcf-file. This worked fine till some weeks ago. Now the contacts get still normally listed in my address book BUT if I search a contact this contact is shown more times. The number of the same contact that I see correspond to the number of executions of this:

syncevolution –import /path/to/file/allcontacts.vcf backend=evolution-contacts

So I think that I do not delete my old contacts properly before I import them again. But how can I delete my contacts properly in my phone book?

To delete the local contacts in a proper way go to /home/phablet/.local/share/evolution/addressbook/system and delete the contacts.db file. Maybe you need to restart your Ubuntu phone.

Ubuntu Touch has EDS (Evolution-data-server) installed. So you can sync it using syncevolution.

First install latest stable version from repo:

For =>14.04

sudo apt-get install syncevolution syncevolution-provider-uoa

For <=13.10

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://downloads.syncevolution.org/apt stable main"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install syncevolution-evolution

If you are using Google-Contacts, then export all contacts as vcf (i.e allcontacts.vcf) & then import it using following command at terminal (Change the path & database accordingly):

syncevolution --import /path/to/file/allcontacts.vcf backend=evolution-contacts database=Personal

To know the names of all available databases type:

syncevolution --print-databases

NOTE :

If vcard file (contacts.vcf) doesn't have new line space after END:VCARD, syncevolution might fail to import all the contacts.

I would recommend you to use Evolution Address book. Add it in Software Center or from terminal - sudo apt-get install evolution

Or use Kontact from KDE desktop - can be installed with sudo apt-get install kontact.

Smartphone should sync with online services, no need to sync contacts with pc!

Personally i prefer Thunderbird.
