Ubuntu – Ubuntu 17.04 freezes after safe removing usb flash or hdd

freezekernelkubuntushutdownusb-storage

My laptop (dell studio xps 1640) is running a kubuntu 17.04 with kernel 4.10.0-42-generic. Most of the times when i connect a USB or HDD device, after safe removing the device when i physically remove the device the os freezes and there is nothing i can do except shutting down the system using power button. It happened before with other versions of ubuntu too, but now that I have a fresh install of kubuntu 17.04 it happens all the time. What do you think is the problem and where should i look for it. I don't have a clue!
It's worth mentioning that i don't think it's a hardware problem because i tested it on windows and there was nothing wrong about it.

Thanks in advance.
