I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 alongside windows 10 on the new Lenovo Yoga 910 (kaby lake)
I'm experiencing both flickering and tearing of the display that makes the laptop unusable. The temporary work around has been to reduce the resolution, and the issues stop. I've tried updating with the latest Intel drivers, to no avail. Anyone else find a solution for full resolution?
Graphics chipset is the Intel HD 620.
As per this bug, the problem seems to be associated with a power saving feature of the GPU. Disabling this feature through the kernel parameter i915.enable_rc6=0 completely fixed the problem for me.
In my travels, I also found another kernel parameter people have also used to fix screen flickering issues (i915.enable_psr=0), however I didn't need this one.
I had been experiencing the same problem with my Dell Vostro 5370 and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
This is how I solved it:
Because DKMS will "pollute" your kernel until you purge the kernel using apt-get. The way I did is:
$ dpkg -l | grep linux-image to check what kernel you have installed# apt-get purge linux-image-4.4.0-73-generic linux-image-extra-4.4.0-73-generic to purge linux completely# apt-get install linux-image-extra-4.4.0-116-genericIf you are not so lucky that you have a functional kernel, you would probably either work under the flicker screen or use the old console without GUI.

I had the same problem and solved it (razer blade stealth i7 7500U kaby lake HD 620 graphic card with 2560x1440 screen).
I opened a bug on the drm intel here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99159 .
A patch has been made to the kernel yesterday (4.9+ which means it will land in the 4.10 release).
In order to fix it, you need to have this patch in your kernel/drm intel. Either you wait for the 4.10 release, or recompile from the drm-tip kernel.
