Ubuntu – Ubuntu 14.04 network manager crashes every time after login

I am using 64 bit Ubuntu gnome 14.04 LTS. Earlier, Ubuntu 14.04 was running smoothly on my laptop. But suddenly, since yesterday Ubuntu network manager started crashing every time after login or restart with error report:

Sigabrt in g_assertion_message()

Due to this I am unable to connect to Internet on my laptop.

There are a lot of related bug reports on Launchpad, so this may be very difficult to solve. But if you look carefully through those bug reports and the comments on them, you may find a workaround. For instance on this one someone reports that they fixed the problem by purging the package urfkill.

Here is an Upstart script you can place to /etc/init/reconnect.conf:

start on started network-manager
stop on runlevel [016]

script
  while true; do
    if ifconfig eth0 | grep -q "inet addr:"; then
       # echo "all ok!"

       restart network-manager
    fi
    sleep 5
  done
end script

Upon losing an ip address for eth0 (configure to your interface if its different), it will restart network-manager job and restore connectivity.

Ubuntu – Cannot connect with huawei e173 after upgrade to 12.10 using network manager

This happened due to bugs(or bug) in the ModemManager 0.6.0.0 which shipped with Ubuntu 12.10. You can remove this modem manager version and downgrade in to 0.5.2.

To check modem manager version : dpkg -s modemmanager

download 0.5.2 version : link 64 --- i386
