I don't need any workspace previews or big workspace switcher widgets. I just want simple workspace switcher like on iOS springboard. Any suggestions?

You can achieve something similar by using a GNOME Shell extension called "Workspace Indicator". It lets you
Put an indicator on the panel signaling in which workspace you are, and give you the possibility of switching to another one.
You can click the indicator and select the destination workspace. You can also scroll up/down to switch to the workspace above/below the current one.

I would suggest Docky , which is a free application that I use alot! Just run
sudo apt-get install docky. For the icons you can just look around, With docky you may also have multiple dock :)
