Do you know any text based mind mapping tools for Ubuntu?
I.E. I would like to edit a text file (e.g. using vim) using a certain markup and then be able to convert it to a mind map (e.g. in png oder pdf format).
Do you know any tool that can do that?
Warning: broken. Shutter is severely broken in Ubuntu 18.04 and not available in later versions.
Shutter (which you can install from the Ubuntu Software Centre or sudo apt-get install shutter) is a tool which has a variety of options for taking and annotating screenshots. (Note: You can annotate any images of your choice, not just screenshots.)
Yes, using imagemagicks convert tool:
convert -delay 20 -loop 0 frame*.png animated.gif
This will take all of the source frames and will make them into one animated GIF image. The -delay 20 argument will cause a 20 hundredths of a second delay between each frame, and the -loop 0 will cause the gif to loop over and over again.
As for setting the background color for the gif, that can be done with the background and flatten flags:
convert -delay 20 -loop 0 frame*.png -background white -flatten animated.gif

I tried this, it works OK
Mind Map Test Nodes Indented with tabs Does it work? I think it does....The FreeMind format is reasonably simple anyway - so I guess you could write some script to take your chosen text format and write FreeMind maps.
