11.10workspaces
I've updated to Ubuntu Oneiric and my workspaces are gone. Better put, keyboard shortcuts CTRL + ALT + LEFT/RIGHT arrow do not work now.
Is it possible that compiz is broken somehow? Can I repair it?
Note: I've used developer versions of Ubuntu Oneiric some time and just upgrade to latest version now.

If you're using Compiz (run wmctrl -m if not sure), wmctrl only sees 1 desktop (2nd field of wmctrl -l, ie 0) but you can use the geometry (-G) option to know what window is on what virtual desktop. All windows in your current desktop will have an x-position between 0 and your screen's width. Same for the y-position between 0 and your screen's height.
So you can use something like that

You can hardcode your screen's width and height if you will, and NAME if you want a one-liner. Im not sure how you want to handle multiple windows matching NAME. That will focus them all.
For metacity, desktop number of windows can be found using wmctrl -l and grepping the 2nd field.
These settings are normally found in Keyboard Shortcuts:
System > Preferences > Hardware > Keyboard Shortcuts
Click where it shows the key combo or says 'disabled' and press the key combination you want.
If you cannot use this feature for some reason or you prefer a CLI method, use Gsettings.

To change one use the gsettings set command, for example
gsettings set org.mate.Marco.window-keybindings move-to-workspace-3 '<Mod4>3'
This command sets super+3 as a shortcut to move the current window to workspace 3.
To remove a keybinding, set it to 'disabled'. See man gsettings for more detail. You may have to experiment to achieve exactly what you want.

Check using
CompizConfig Settings Manager(install if you dont have it) the number of virtual desktops assigned (horizontal and vertical size):Then have a look at
System Settings>Keyboard>Shortcuts>Navigationand check your assigned keyboard shortcuts there:Try assigning new keys for them, if that works try reverting the original keyboard shortcuts.
