Is there an easy way to organize all my music files by artist, album etc. ?
I would like to organize all the music files in ~/Music in folders by their metadata.
So the directory structure would look like this:
Music/
Artist name/
Album name/
Song.mp3
Is there a tool for this purpose?
You can use Banshee, which is Ubuntu's default music player.
Open Banshee
Before importing your music, configure Banshee's import options
Import your music via Media > Import
It's important that you set Banshee to update file and folder names before importing your music.
Once your music is imported, you can modify file properties, such as name, artist, album, genre, and rating as needed, following Banshee's documentation.
If you select the Unknown Album of the Unknown Artist, Banshee will display the corresponding track-list (which should contain all the unidentified tracks you imported).
Select all the unknown tracks which you believe belong to a same album (using shift+left-click or ctrl+left-click), then right-click to get the context-menu. In this menu you will choose Edit Track Information:
You will then see an Edit Track Information dialogue, where you will be able to edit your metadata manually:
There are also plug-ins to fix metadata.

Ex Falso will do the job; I use it to retag and rename my library all the time. To do this, select all of your folders containing music on the left, and then select all of the music you want to rename on the bottom. Go to the Rename Files tab and experiment with settings, using the Preview button to see where music will go. When you're satisfied, hit Save and it will organize them all. :)
