I have a new voicemail system that attaches mp3s to emails and sends them to me. I'm using Thunderbird for IMAP email.
When I try to open them with Rythmbox, I run into trouble because of the playlist. If I have music on pause, it won't even open the voicemail clip, it just starts playing the paused music.
I'm looking for a second player that loads fast to play these voicemails. No other features are necessary. I'm guessing there may be an issue with the temporary file location.
You can do the same in 12.04 by using several software.
Install winff and libavcodec-extra first
sudo apt-get install winff libavcodec-extra
Open Winff from dash
Then in Winff window, do these
Add file
Select what catagory to convert (select Audio)
Select Audio file format (mp3)
Type the output folder for converted file
Install VLC and "libavcodec-extra" package first
sudo apt-get install vlc libavcodec-extra
Open VLC from dash by pressing Super key and typing "VLC" there
Then from top panel menu, Select Media → Convert/Save.
Then Add file to convert in the new window. Then click Convert button.
In the new window, Select the directory for output file, select the conversion profile (Audio mp3) and click Start button.
First install the tools
sudo apt-get install ffmpeg libavcodec-extra libav-tools
If you are using
Use this simple command to extract the audio file
avconv -i /input-file-name-with-path output-filename.mp3
For example to convert the "How fast.ogg" video file into how-fast.mp3 use this command:
avconv -i /usr/share/example-content/Ubuntu_Free_Culture_Showcase/How\ fast.ogg how-fast.mp3

On a LinuxLinks site I see a list of jukebox players - after I quick look at Shrill and Room Juice I see they do have the desired feature of limiting controls (adding songs to queue only) but it would be nice to find something with moderin GUI.
magu_ is asking for a program that features prevention of songs being played right away and that allows party people to queue songs only. Right? Reading other answers I see it might have been not explicit enough.

A simple little audio player called
decibelis a python program that is incredibly fast and powerful. You do not need to import all your mp3s or other tracks before you can play them. With the full view selected from the view menu, it gives you a directory tree in the the sidebar (see the screenshot). You can expand the folder you want and either select that entire folder or just one or two tracks and then drag and drop into the main window pain (again see the screenshot). By default it is set to show just the home folder in the sidebar, but that can be changed: on the menu, go to edit > preferences > explorer and double click on file explorer.If you go to edit > preferences there are a number of useful plugins that you can enable and you can also switch on some desktop integration features. There is also an equalizer available as well which has various presets. Again, you can keep it as a minimal player or use these other features; it is very configurable.
