Ubuntu – Screen brightness changes when moving mouse to certain areas (XPS13 9379 – Ubuntu)

When I move the mouse to certain areas, the brightness changes. Bright areas make the screen even brighter and dark areas make it even darker.
This is really annoying. Does anybody know a solution?

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 on an XPS13 9370. Hardware is Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 and driver is i915_bpo.

I found out it is actually an XPS13 issue or "feature". On the 9370 it is possible to deactivate it in the BIOS:

Settings --> Video --> Dynamic Backlight Control --> Disable!

I'm not sure how you're adjusting the brightness, but using xrandr, may yield different results.

As in xrandr --output VGA-0 --brightness 1.1 or 0.8 for darker, etc (see xrandr's output for your output name, maybe HDMI-0 or so)

Click on system settings,
Click on 'brightness and lock' in the menu,
Uncheck the option ' dim screen to save power'.

If that doesn't work:

Open up your terminal and run:

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

Then at the very end of the file add:

blacklist video
