I would like to start music stream to DLNA receiver from Ubuntu 20.04.
I have created DLNA server already through Settings/Sharing/Media Sharing and I'm able to connect to it and play media files using DLNA receiver (some Denon network audio player), but I'm not able to "trigger" music play from Ubuntu side.
I found, that pulseaudio-dlna package would probably resolve my problem, but it looks like the newest supported Ubuntu version is 17.04.
What are the alternatives?
The control points in Gupnp-tools are very basic, more a testing tool than a every day media player. Try rygel as a DLNA server and eezUPNP as a control point. There is also kinsky by Linn, but I wasn't able to get it to work, keeps crashing. Another alternative may be serviio, but I haven't tried that yet.
I created a little server which discovers all upnp renderers in your network and adds them as sinks to pulseaudio. So you can control every application via pavucontrol to play on your upnp devices.
That's the kind of comfort I always wanted when dealing with upnp devices under linux.
The application can be installed from source or DEB package downloadable from git, or after we had added the project's official ppa:qos/pulseaudio-dlna to our sources with:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-dlna
We then run pulseaudio-dlna from the command line with following options:
pulseaudio-dlna [--host <host>] [--port <port>] [--encoder <encoder>] [--renderer-urls <urls>] [--debug]
pulseaudio-dlna [-h | --help | --version]

I had the same problem, as I am using Pop OS 20.04 and need to stream music to a raspberry running Volumio. The solution for me was to download the Debian version from https://packages.debian.org/sid/all/pulseaudio-dlna/download Greetings from Chile
