Ubuntu – Problems using ibus input method for Pinyin Chinese

I am trying to use ibus-pinyin to input Chinese; but, I am having a problem.

The ibus input method always gives me unexpected Chinese characters.

For example, if I type "zhongwen", it doesn't give me the two characters "zhong" and "wen" as expected, but instead gave me “zang ongwen” （脏 ongwen). I can't find any place to choose the characters I want to use.

I tried to change the different Pinyin method such as double Pinyin and others, but all of them gave results like this.

Could any one help resolve my issue?

Is it similar to Why my ibus input can't type 'que' or 'qve' in Chinese? ?　It solved my problem (deactivating the low frequent character in the dictionary).

I just managed to find a solution to my own question. I still haven't been able to get chewing to work the way I want, but here is a fix using the pinyin input method.

First of all, set "Show language panel" to always in the ibus preferences. At the moment, I cannot get the panel to integrate well with unity, so it does not seem to show unless forced to. Next, one of the buttons reads "traditional" and it toggles between simplified and traditional input. Voila!

One suggestion -- since the traditional characters tend to have more strokes, they can be tricky to read to an untrained eye (such as mine). For these purposes, increase the font size in the ibus preferences dialog (14+ looks best to me).

1. I think you need to open Language Support and install Chinese(simplifed or traditional)

2. You can try to install Chinese input method manually

sudo apt-get install ibus-pinyin 
sudo apt-get install ibus-sunpinyin

3. Restart IBus daemon

ibus restart

4. Then you can find Chinese(pinyin) input method in Text Entry Setting. enter image description here
