Ubuntu – Permission denied when trying to open a file in gimp

When I try to open a .psd file using gimp I get this error:

Opening '/media/anonoymous/Other's/Practise/bootstarp/design.psd' failed: Could not open '/media/anonoymous/Other's/Practise/bootstarp/design.psd' for reading: Permission denied

What should I do?

I was able to correct this error by giving the gimp snap access to the removable-media plug by entering the following command:

snap connect gimp:removable-media :removable-media

The problem is that you are executing the command inside /usr/src to which you do not have write permissions with your credentials. Therefore you do not have write permissions for the .tar file you are trying to create. Use tar cvf /tmp/rtl_archive.tar /usr/src to create a tar-file where writing is possible.

Generally you can give any path that you have write access to, such as:

tar cvf $HOME/rtl_archive.tar /usr/src

to create the .tar file in.

/media is owned by root and it can be modified only with superuser privileges. That means that, if you want to unrar, create or copy any file to that directory, you have to precede the command by sudo or launch the program you are going to work with, launched with gksu.
