Ubuntu – New XPS 13 9380 with ubuntu 18.04 flicker problems

I just received my new xps 13 9380 with a 4k display and with ubuntu pre-installed and since I started it that I am getting flickring problems.

Could this be a ubuntu configuration problem or should I report a faulty display to Dell?

After checking the BIOS (version 1.2.1 – latest) it might be an ubuntu config issue since there's no flickering so hardware is fine.

Ubuntu – Problems with nvidia drivers on Dell XPS

The XPS series (without 3D) have two graphics units. An Intel onboard chip and the Nvidia chip. The Nvidia gpu is activated and disactiviated depending on load by software within the Windows driver called Optimus. NVidia has not choosen to release this for Linux yet.

On my XPS 17 I am simply not running any NVidia drivers at the moment and Ubuntu is working great. I will take a look at https://github.com/z0rc/debumblebee when I have a chance. This should give some of the same functionality as Optimus.

I had the same problem, and I think it improved by updating the Bluetooth firmware using the files included in the newest Windows driver. My MD5s:

By the way, an easier workaround was to unplug the power and do a suspend/resume cycle.
